Connect Claude Code¶
What this is: add Bill & Ben to Claude Code, the terminal app. Who it is for: developers who already use Claude Code.
Who can use it¶
Anyone who can run claude in a terminal. The commands below come from Claude Code's own documentation. Your account must have the Bill & Ben permission gateway.connect (permissions).
Steps¶
- Add the server. Run this in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http bb https://ai.<brand>/mcp - Start Claude Code and type
/mcp. - Pick
bband choose to sign in. Your browser opens. - Sign in with your company account and choose Allow. Return to the terminal.
- Ask: "What can you do with Bill & Ben?"
Claude Code keeps the connection for the current project only, by default. To use it everywhere add --scope user to the command in step 1. To share it with your team in the repository, use --scope project.
If you use a personal access token instead¶
Create a token on https://ai.<brand>/tokens (see the overview). Then:
claude mcp add --transport http bb https://ai.<brand>/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <your token>"
What an admin must do¶
Nothing special on the Claude Code side. If your company manages Claude Code settings, the admin may need to allow the server. Make sure your Bill & Ben permissions are set.
What you can do¶
All the tools on the overview. Claude Code limits very large tool results, so open the Helmora link for the full answer. To run work on your own machine, ask: "Delegate to Ben: ... on my machine." Your device shows an approval prompt.
If it goes wrong¶
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Incompatible auth server: does not support dynamic client registration" | This should not happen with Bill & Ben. Tell your admin: the gateway's sign-in setup is wrong. Meanwhile use a personal access token. |
| Browser shows an error right after sign-in | The app's return address was refused. Tell your admin. Use a personal access token meanwhile. |
| Sign-in page says Not on your organisation's list | Your admin must add you. |
The server shows as failed in /mcp |
Run claude mcp get bb. Check the address ends in /mcp. |
| "your organisation has not given you gateway access" | Ask for gateway.connect. |
For limit and budget messages see common problems.
Disconnect¶
- Sign out first: run
claude mcp logout bb, or use/mcpand clear the sign-in. - Then remove the entry:
claude mcp remove bb.
Remove only deletes the entry, so do step 1 first. Other useful commands: claude mcp list and claude mcp get bb. To cut access at once, ask your admin to remove your gateway.connect permission, and revoke any personal token on the tokens page.
